About

Jean Loncle worked in various trades before becoming an underwater photographer. Assistant technician in sound and lighting in the French Alps, forest guide in the Amazon, site manager in Madagascar, etc. Between two missions, he explored the world on foot: the Andes mountain range for 5 months, crossing the Atacama desert in Chile, the Nepalese part of the Himalayas, the Moroccan Atlas. In 2005, he went to Cambodia and settle as a photojournalist. He spent several years there documenting people’s daily lives in Southeast Asia. In 2012, he obtained his first underwater housing to follow speargun fishermen of Manompana village, in Madagascar. Born in Saint Malo, land of sailors, he then returned to the ocean and noticed the damage caused by human activities. A few years later, he decided to photograph only the big blue and its inhabitants.
